Born in 1949 in Johannesburg, South Africa, Catherine is known for her still life and marine paintings but is mainly a landscape painter. For inspiration she has travelled throughout her native land, South Africa, and to Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Egypt, Madagascar and further afield to Iran, Israel, Spain, Italy as well as Winnipeg and Boston in the depths of mid-winter to observe snow. She paints with gouache on cotton canvas achieving rich glowing tones in delicately superimposed layers of colour, using mica and gold, aerosol and liquid acrylic varnishes. Catherine undertakes commissions and has an exhibition about once a year.
